What is a Nurse Practitioner?

A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse (RN) with advanced training in diagnosing and treating illness. Nurse Practitioners prescribe medications, treat illness, and administer physical exams. NPs differ from physicians in that they focus on prevention, wellness, and education. NPs specialize in providing all encompassing individualized care.

As a Nurse Practitioner can you write prescriptions?

Yes. As a Family Nurse Practitioner in Washington State I am licensed to write all the same prescriptions a conventional medical doctor is licensed to write.

Can you order labs and other diagnostic tests?

As a Nurse Practitioner I am trained to diagnose, treat and manage common illnesses. Diagnosing a problem often involves getting blood work done or ordering other tests such as x-rays, CT scans, MRI’s. I am licensed to order and interpret these tests. If I ever have a question about a result I consult with local area specialists for confirmation.

What insurance do you take?

I am a preferred provider with many insurance companies. You best bet is to call and ask as their websites aren't always accurate Sometimes I have been accidentally listed as a specialist not as family practice or primary care provider. (If this is the case please let me know.)

Can I see you if I've been in a motor vehicle accident?

Yes. I will see you if you've been in a motor vehicle accident (MVA) as long as you have a PIP (personal injury protection) number from the automobile insurance company. Otherwise you will be expected to pay cash at the time of service and I will give you a bill of service so you can be reimbursed. Your health insurance company cannot be charged for a visit related to an MVA

How much time should I allow for my appointments?

Your first appointment will last one hour. If you did not get mailed the paperwork or haven’t completed it, please arrive at least fifteen minutes before your appointment to fill it out. Your follow-up appointments will last 30 minutes unless we agree to something different.

What do I need to bring with me to my first appointment?

You should bring your paperwork if it was mailed to you, your insurance card and your copayment which is usually listed as OV (office visit) on your card. I accept cash, checks and debit/credit cards.

What about parking?

Typically street parking is available in front of the clinic or across. Depending on the time of day nearby parking may be harder to find. However, most everyone is successful at finding parking within a block of the office. Click here for directions.

Do you run on time?

I firmly believe that your time is valuable and make every effort to see patients on time. In rare emergency instances I will run 20 minutes late.

What are your hours?

I work Monday and Thursday from 9-5 and Tuesday and Wednesday from 9-2. If you need to be seen earlier than 9 am please ask the office staff to check with me as I usually can accommodate an 8:00 or 8:30am appointment on occasion.

What if I need to talk to you after hours?

I carry a digital pager with me 24/7 for emergency contact after hours. There is no extra fee for this service. There are times when I will be out of my cell phone and pager coverage area and you will be directed to an after hours urgent care clinic or the emergency room.

How do I get my prescriptions refilled?

In most cases you can have your pharmacy FAX a refill request to 206-525-8014 and I will authorize a refill for at least 30 days. BE SURE TO ALLOW 48 HOURS FOR REFILL REQUESTS. Many pharmacies do not get their requests to me right away. If I am in the office I will do them the same day. If your request arrives too late on Thursday or on Friday when I do not work, then your prescription will not be signed off until the following week. Please allow enough time for refills so you do not run out of your medications.
